How To Build a Ferret Cage - 3 Things You Need To Remember
If you decide to build a cage for your ferret, you have to remember a few things. Otherwise your ferret will not be safe in its new home or will find it a gloomy place to stay.
Building a ferret cage - things to consider:
1. Use a metal tray for the bottom of the cage. This will make the cage sturdier and allow it to withstand all of your ferret’s running around inside. You need to create a softer flooring on top of the metal tray. Vinyl is a good material for that.
2. Make sure your ferret cage has enough room for the following things: litter, toys, food and water dishes, and enough space for your ferret to run around in. Remember, this is your ferret’s home. It needs to be comfortable. Many people go for multi-level ferret cages as it saves room around the house.
3. Make sure there are no sharp edges in your cage. Once you create the cage, make sure that none of the metal bars have any protruding points or sharp edges or your ferret may injure itself. If need be, use duct tape to secure all corners and sharp edges.
4. Don’t forget to leave room for a door (I know this seems obvious, but some people forget this until the last minute), and make sure it’s large enough.
5. Make sure that the food and water dishes are secure and in a position in which it’s easy to sip or eat from, but impossible to turn over.
6. Use recycled paper or wood pellets as the base of the litter box as these 2 materials are great absorbents and hold a minimum of bad odor.
7. Make sure you place some ferret toys inside the cage. Ferrets are playful creatures and need something to occupy them. Ferrets need toys which they can’t chew off. Get some specific Ferret toys and place them in the cage.
I hope you have fun building your ferret cage, and that your pet will enjoy its stay there.
