New extended range of sieve standards

Building on the continuing success of the company’s glass microsphere sieve calibration standards, Whitehouse Scientific has now extended the range and resolution of the series
Building on the continuing success of the company’s glass microsphere sieve calibration standards, Whitehouse Scientific has now extended the range and resolution of the series. The aperture size of every sieve manufactured from 20 to 3350 microns can now be certified to NIST traceability. This extends the range’s capabilities from the 30 ‘primary’ sieves that originally could be calibrated to include a further 30 intermediate sizes.

This new development is important not only in precision particle size analysis, but also for accurate separation processes.

It is now possible, for example, to accurately distinguish between a 100 and a 106 micron sieve.

The Whitehouse sieve calibration standards are available in single shot bottles, minimising the possibility of sampling errors by the operator.

They can be used for sieve diameters from 40 - 450 mm diameter.

Chilled mirror hygrometer Model CMH

Self contained dew point hygrometers combine the inherent accuracy, reliability and long term stability of optical chilled mirror technology, with the convenience and ease of use needed in industry
These self contained dew point hygrometers combine the inherent accuracy, reliability and long term stability of optical chilled mirror technology with the convenience and ease of use of demanded by Industry. The Model CMH dewpoint hygrometers are designed for continuous monitoring applications where high accuracy and reliability are required. Dewpoint temperature measurement is made using a direct measuring sensor utilising a Peltier-cooled mirror, automatically held at the dew point temperature by a condensate detecting optical system, incorporating an LED light source and photo-detector.

The optical sensing bridge detects the change in light level when dew or frost forms on the mirror.

Subsequent cycles of negative feedback controlled heating and cooling refine the result to a highly accurate constant reading of sample dew point.

This technique is a primary measurement of the water vapour content of the gas.The mirror temperature represents the true dew point temperature and is measured by an embedded precision platinum resistance thermometer.

For dew points below 0C, the instrument displays the frost point.

Hydrocarbon dew-point analyser gains CSA cert

The Michell hydrocarbon dew-point analyser Condumax II is now CSA certified for Class 1, Div 1, Groups B, C and D with a T4 temperature classification and an ambient temperature range -40C to +60C
Michell Instruments hydrocarbon dew-point analyser Condumax II is now CSA certified for Class 1, Div 1, Groups B, C and D with a T4 temperature classification and an ambient temperature range -40C to +60C. Launched last year, Condumax II has enjoyed unprecedented success in the field of hydrocarbon dew-point measurement in the natural gas industry. The CSA certification adds another accolade to the coveted analyser that was awarded ATEX certification in August 2004.

CSA is an internationally recognised body that has responsibility for the co-ordination of national standards in Canada and the US.

In order to achieve this accreditation, several criteria must be met.

* 1 Development of consensus standards which adhere to the principles used in Canada governing the consensus process.

* 2 Complying with criteria established for approval of National Standards of Canada.

CSA continually revise, refresh and address the changing requirements and emerging technologies of today.

Each standard is reviewed at least every five years as part of CSA on-going improvements to enhance trade and promote safety and well-being.

Condumax II has met the CSA criteria and can officially display this certification throughout Canada and the US.

Since its launch in September 2004, Condumax II has enjoyed global recognition and success.

Condumax II was awarded the ‘Technical Innovation of the Year’ prize at the annual Hazardex awards ceremony in March 2005.

It fought off fierce competition from 14 other finalists to claim the award, being described as: ‘The most innovative product or service introduced into the hazardous area market place with effectiveness being demonstrated via application details’.

In June 2005, Condumax II was brought to life in a free multi-media CD.

The CD was developed as part of a programme to increase awareness to the importance and relevance of hydrocarbon dew-point measurement in the natural gas industry.

Since the CD was developed, several hundred have been requested by engineers interested in the industry.

The CSA Approval certification now marks the beginning of another chapter in the Condumax II success story.

Humidity indicator plugs detect changes in RH

AGM Humidity Indicator Plugs for reusable or long-term containers readily detect internal changes in relative humidity (RH) using a choice of reversible or maximum indicating colour-change discs
AGM humidity Indicator Plugs have been designed for easy mounting on reusable or long-term containers and enclosures to readily detect internal changes in relative humidity (RH) using a choice of reversible or maximum indicating color-change discs. Quickly installed with common hand tools, they are leak-proof and shock and vibration resistant. Model TA350 for installation in rigid containers is of zinc-plated brass construction and the TA356 plug is of lighter weight, clear anodised aluminium construction for use in flexible barriers, but can be adjusted for rigid applications as well.

Both models mount through a 1.05” (26 mm) diameter hole and meet SAE AS26860 Type II.

They are furnished with a 40% RH indicator disc as standard, but can be supplied with either a single spot disc for any number between 10 and 90% RH (in multiples of 10) or a multi-level indicator showing a range of percentages in pie-sector or spot styles.

Reversible colour-change elements turn from blue to lavender to pink as the humidity increases and revert to blue when the humidity decreases.

They can be re-used as long as they are not exposed to humidity over 90% for periods of 36 hours or more, or become wet.

Long-term calibration and accuracy is to within +/-5% when read at 75F (24C), with a 2.5% correction factor for each 10F higher or lower.

Irreversible colour-stain maximum indicators for use in desiccated atmospheres warn that certain humidity levels have been exceeded and that the desiccant may need to be recharged or replaced.

The element alerts users to dangerous humidity levels by staining a white indicator disc a brilliant blue which may turn dark blue when exposed to excessive humidity for a minimum time period.

Both types of elements may be installed in the same plug-type housings, which are suitable for almost all applications for Method II packaging of MIL-P-116.

RFI/EMI shielding or CARC finish can be supplied as optional features.

Housings without elements may also be used as observation windows.
